Rachel Carson, noted conservationist and author of Silent Spring, lived north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is a design for the exhibit space of her homestead which now functions as a museum and gathering place in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

In keeping with the spirit of Rachel's work, the wood used in this project came from the Urban Tree Forge in Pittsburgh. This is a small organization that makes usable lumber out of local trees that either fall naturally or need to be removed. Given the timeframe and the region, it's quite possible that the wood used to make these pieces came from trees that Rachel Carson herself once walked beside.
